2014 Pontiac Firebird Convertible Car Reviews & Specs

Surpassing the current 430-hp Corvette Convertible and a outgunning the legendary 1970 450-hp Chevelle SS 454 Convertible, the 2014 Firebird Convertible will be the most powerful convertible for Pontiac ever when it appears in 2014. Like the coupe, the 2014 Firebird convertible features a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine producing 580 hp. Pontiac even takes a shot at the competition in its press release by stating the horsepower figures of some its rival’s convertible models, specifically calling out the 470-hp Aston Martin DB9 Volante, 518-hp Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, 530-hp Porsche 911 Turbo S Convertible, and 550-hp Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible. Although no exact performance figures were provided, we anticipate the 2014 Firebird Convertible to be faster than everything but the 911.

Pontiac  says the Firebird will feature the same balance of acceleration, handling and ride quality found in the
Firebird Coupe. If it is anything like the Firebird Convertible
we tested, we have full faith that the performance of the convertible will not suffer. This can be partly contributed to the reinforcements utilized by Pontiac engineers to keep the Convertible’s rigidity close to that of the coupe’s. For the 2014 Pontiac Firebird, additional reinforcements will also be employed.

The 2014 Firebird Convertible will use the third-generation Magnetic Ride system,. It can monitor and adjust damping levels up to 1,000 times per second for changing road and driving conditions. The Firebird will also come standard with Pontiac’s Performance Traction Management system to enhance both drag-strip-like launches and cornering.

The Firebird Convertible will go on sale in late 2013 as a 2014 for a small premium over the Firebird coupe.
